Nassau YRs announce straw poll results
Giuliani wins big with McCain not too far behind
On January 9, 2008, the Nassau County Young Republicans held the first presidential straw poll in Nassau County.

The big winners were Rudy Giuliani with 29.4% on top and John McCain trailing behind with 17.6%.  Tied for third place were Ron Paul and Mitt Romney with 11.8%.  Rounding out at fourth were Mike Huckabee and Alan Keyes each scoring 5.9%.  The results of the straw poll are non-binding and based only on the members that attended. The ballot contained the names of all nine candidates that will appear on the official state ballot next month.

“I thank everyone for participating in this event,” said Andrew Stream, President of the YRs.  “Don’t forget to vote on February 5 at your regular polling place for the candidate of your choice.  If anyone is in need of an absentee ballot, you can download it from our Web site.”

The Young Republicans is a social organization open to all Republicans ages 14 to 40. If you are over the age of 18, you must be enrolled as a Republican. Meetings are generally held on the fourth Thursday of each month. Membership dues are $5 a year for high school students and $10 for all others.
